In the aftermath of the financial crisis, Tarek and Christina El Moussa were close to losing the entirety of their wealth. They went from living in a home that cost $6000 per month, and then an apartment that cost $700 per month. They gradually rebuilt their business and the entire economy. HGTV and Rise to Fame Tarek enlisted the help of a friend to make an audition tape to HGTV that featured Christina flipping the property over from scratch. The tape landed in the management of an executive at a production company called Pie Town Productions. The execs loved Tarek along with Christina. They signed an official deal with HGTV in the year 2012. "Flip of Flop" began its premiere in April 2013. In seven seasons, the show aired from 2013 to 2017. The show featured Christina and Tarek purchasing properties in Orange County. They would invest weeks in transforming the homes in order to make their properties at a the profit. Tarek concentrates on demolition and renovation and Christina is responsible for design. She makes sure everything runs on time.
