Catherine Ford was born in Bloomsbury, London; her father had abandoned her family and she was raised by her mother, grandmother and godparents. When she was a girl, Ford was battling anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused by the word association. Ford was interested in the field of acting during her teens and was a part of the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just one few weeks, she realized it was not the right fit for her. Ford applied again for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, after her fourth application she was eventually accepted. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. He was later to play frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993. However, she made her television debut in a 1992 episode of Surgical Spirit. She adopted the title Catherine Tate. Tate began her TV debut in 1991and appeared in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. as well as London's Burning. Apart from her regular stage work, Tate was a part of in the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. However, Tate quickly began gaining recognition for her stand-up comedic performances, which she added to her resume in the year 1996.
